Should I Have a Sale? Why Promotions are Important for Small Biz

No matter what business you run, you likely know that always having some kind of "sale" or "promotion" is the key to success. Think of the bigger chain stores;

Wal-Mart is famous for "rolling back prices", which gives the customer the vision of continual sales.

Macys, Kohls, JC Penny - all these stores have some kind of "2 Day Sale" just about every week.

Furniture stores like Art Van as well as just about every car dealership continually has "The Biggest Sale of the Year!"...

Sales make people want to hurry into the business. A "sale" that is advertised as being "limited time" (2 day sale, 24 hour sale, etc) creates a sense of urgancy for the consumer. They want to make sure they are able to purchase the merchandise for the "sale price". So as a business owner, its important to compete with other "sales" and give customers an additional reason to rush into your business and BUY.
